Looking for something to do with the kids Mote Marine is a must see when vacationing on Anna Maria Island.

Explore the secrets of the sea through touch pools, viewable-working labs and high-tech interactive exhibits that showcase the world-renowned research of Mote Marine Laboratory. See sharks, manatees and sea turtles, along with more than 100 other species of marine life.

Rain or Shine view all exhibits from undercover spaces. The main Aquarium and the Marine Mammal Center have both indoor and outdoor exhibits. The outdoor spaces in the main Aquarium building are undercover with open siding (which is temperature exposed). The Marine Mammal Center is mostly undercover, with the exception of the first floor viewing of Otters & Their Waters and our newest exhibit, The Teeth Beneath. These two exhibits are also viewable from the second floor which has an overhang which protects visitors from inclement weather.

Comprised of scientists, explorers and stewards of the ocean. Driven by research, education and excitement working to create a better environment.

This independent marine research institution comprised of world-class marine scientists committed to the belief that the conservation and sustainable use of our oceans begins with research and education.

Enjoy an Echo friendly tour an exciting, hands-on, educational and fun on-the-water experience — guided by experts who can tell you what you're looking at. Sarasota Bay Explorers, working with The Aquarium at Mote, offer interactive, hands-on eco-adventures on the Sea Life Encounter Cruise, Guided Kayak Tours, Nature Safari and private charters aboard the Miss Explorer.

Experience a shark encounter. You can be chef to the sharks and find out how they get their vitamins during our Shark Encounter, a behind-the-scenes program atop the 135,000-gallon shark habitat in Mote Aquarium. And don’t worry — our sharks’ favorite food is fish!

Up to three guests may join Mote staff to prepare brunch for the sharks and large fish, including blacknose, nurse and sandbar sharks, southern stingrays, tarpon, snook, goliath grouper and more. Guests will learn about shark biology, care, feeding and research from elasmobranch specialists.

Participants in Shark Encounter will help Mote’s aquarium biologists feed the sharks during our public narrated training session — a special program where sharks are trained to swim toward patterned targets to receive their food.

Located at 1600 Ken Thompson Pkwy, Sarasota, FL 34236. When leave Absolute Anna Maria follow Gulf of Mexico Dr. straight south for 15 minutes.

Meet The Author
Hi, I am Terry, my wife Sandy (who writes our blogs) are the caring, hands on owners and managers of Anna Maria Condo Rentals. We’ve been here for years, so we know Anna Maria Island, the island’s condos, and our island’s guests. We understand you – what you need, what you want, and what you’d really like to have. With us, every stay balances the rigorous requirements of professional managers with the enthusiasm, pride and personal touches of an owner-managed rental. That means that with us, you enjoy the dual benefits of an in-the-know local combined with the professionalism and expertise of a serious company. Come on down and experience the difference for yourself. Our family fell in love with Anna Maria Island the first time we visited in 1989. Every summer since, we’ve spent our vacations on this island, and in 1995, we bought our first condo here. Having a young family at the time meant we had to rent our condo to offset ownership costs. Thankfully, by offering luxurious accommodations at an affordable price, we were able to keep the condo booked for an average of 50 weeks a year. These steady bookings allowed us to purchase our second condo in 2013, and a third in 2014. While opening up these homes has allowed us to keep returning to the island—and even better, to a house that feels like home—we also truly enjoy offering a place to guests to discover Anna Maria Island and feel at home here, too.
