Whidbey Playhouse Presents: A Streetcar Named Desire
Show Dates: Feb 8-24, 2019
This iconic Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece by Tennessee Williams is an exquisite study of the unraveling of Blanche DuBois, a fading southern belle, born to a once-wealthy family of Mississippi planters. After losing her home and her job as an English teacher, Blanche travels to New Orleans to live with her sister Stella, and her brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski. She is shocked by Stella’s simple existence, her new low-class habits, and most of all, her crude, simple husband, Stanley. Wounded by romantic abuses, loss, and dangerous mistakes, Blanche prefers her world be kept in dim, flattering light. Stanley though has other ideas. Tired of feeling belittled by Blanche, he looks into her past and discovers the real truth. As the months go by, Blanche's fragile facade slowly crumbles into madness. Explosive, passionate, and heartrending, A Streetcar Named Desire is modern American theater at its best where every character is an integral part of the play!

WICA presents: Shakespeare’s Other Women
by Scott Kaiser
Presented by Island Shakespeare Festival
Directed by Erin Murray
WICA welcomes ISF to its 2018-2019 Theatre Series with a return of Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Scott Kaiser’s Shakespeare’s Other Women. Providing audiences with new perspectives of their favorite Shakespeare femmes - and introducing a few never before seen figures - Island Shakespeare Festival will remount it’s sold out 2018 production.
The story takes place on the night before the first folio is released in 1623, when Shakepeare’s editors John Heminge and Henry Condell discover a box of unused prose - and the forgotten women of Shakespeare come to life through 36 heart-stopping soliloquies. Queens, wenches, goddesses, and everything in between spill forth into the hearts and minds of all who witness them. These forgotten voices combine to create a fiery unforgettable performance.
