Titanic artifacts and stories at Cherbourg

Published on August 26, 2015 by Chris Robinson

Discover 35 Titanic artifacts at the Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg until 15 November. Cherbourg was a port of call for The Titanic on 10th April 1912. The items have been salvaged from the wreck of the Titanic by the American company RMS Titanci Inc and give an insight into the lives and stories behind those travelling on the fated White Star Line liner. Personal items being displayed at the maritime museum include a pair of white silk socks and a necklace. The collection also includes crockery from all three classes of travel on the ship.

Until 2014 I worked in central London as a marketeer for a membership organization. Years of watching property renovation programmes on TV sparked a dream to do this in France having studied French and worked there previously. I left my job and completed the sale of my house on the same day (a stroke of luck rather than good planning) and headed off to Normandy. I undertook a barn renovation project managing the artisans’ workload. The result is a 3 bedroom gite which I now market all year providing me with endless opportunities to increase my skills and knowledge.
