Smoky Mountain Country Club

A golf course nestled in a mountain valley and a great place to golf in the Smoky Mountains. Minutes from Bryson City, Cherokee, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park! View details, tips, tricks, and our insiders guide below!

If your looking for a fun place to play mountain golf then look no further than Smoky Mountain Country Club! The course location is perfect between Cherokee and Bryson City NC, and close to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Nestled in a mountain valley known as the Conley’s Creek area you will be surprised as you take the short but winding road from the main highway. The area will open up to a beautiful mountain golf community. The course itself was designed by Thomas Walker and features bent grass greens and Bermuda tee boxes and fairways.  The course has a par of 71 and plays 6,100 yards for the back tees.  The design of the course most certainly fits into the natural harmony of the land surrounding it.  There are stunning tee boxes and holes with significant elevation changes of up to 400 feet! The club house is very clean and adequate, containing a small restaurant and bar, pro-shop, and restroom and locker room facilities.  There is a driving range and putting practice area as well. The staff have always been friendly and courteous to us as well as our stay and play guests. This is an excellent place to play a round if your looking to play a round or two of golf in the Smoky Mountains. If your group is staying with us at the Hive Lodge or The Ol’ Gun Range Cabin then you are only three miles away! Be sure to see our insider tips below for playing golf in the Smoky Mountains and Smoky Mountain Country Club.

Golf Course Layout

The course has a typical layout of passing the clubhouse at the turn with a practice putting surface at the first tee box. There are three tee boxes at Smoky Mountain Country Club and most will allow you to let it rip! The fairways are fairly wide and the rough is not all that bad of a place to be in. The long hitters will find this course very short and the Par 5’s reachable. Like any other mountain golf course there will be a few blind shots but they are not in abundance here.  I love the challenge of the Par 5 8th which is a wide open fairway that, with a good tee shot, will entice you to go for the very narrow green in two. The last hole will be a favorite as you finish the front nine. It features a huge elevation drop from the tee box to the green. The back nine has a great mixture of holes with back to back Par 5’s that are wide open and a great place to catch up on your score. I absolutely love the finishing hole with the Great Smoky Mountains as the backdrop.  Compared to the closest counterpart Sequoyah National Golf Club in Cherokee NC this course will seem less challenging and more forgiving for sure.

Traveler Tips for Golf in the Smoky Mountains

Smoky Mountain Country Club is a very fun course to play for the average weekend golfer. It will present a challenge to those who haven’t played very much mountain golf but that’s what makes golf courses in the Smoky Mountains so unique! Be sure to have a few extra golf balls in the bag than you would at a flat golf course. Some of the tee shots with elevation change will require a certain distance to clear water or shrubs.  There are golf balls available in the Pro-shop at a reasonable rate as well as alcoholic beverages.  The driving range is not always open and you will need to call beforehand if you are wanting to warm up first.  The good news is that if you are staying with us at The Hive Lodge we have an 80 yard warm up shot complete with a golf mat for those just needing to warm up the swing before you head to your round of golf! Always have rain gear in the bag as pop up thunderstorms are a given any day, especially in the Spring and Summer months.
