A Hiking Guide by Ortwin Widmann

Skiathos Hiking Trails - A Guide

In our book collection at Villa Maestrali, we keep a copy of Ortwin Widmann's wonderful Skiathos hiking guide.

The author has lived on the island for many years and was the first to map and mark 25 beautiful hiking trails, adding up to a total of 197 km.

Having categorised them from easy, to medium, to difficult, and ranging between 1 to 6 hour hikes, his book not only guides you through the island's lush nature to enjoy breathtaking views, rest at romantic picnic spots and visit historic sites. The author is also knowledgable on the large variety of wild herbs and their medicinal uses.

Guide Book Cover

The guide book is obtainable in most supermarkets on the island.

To take part in one of his guided hikes, simply contact him, his info is:

The "Skiathos Hiking Medal" is a fun challenge and can be obtained by anyone making a note of at least 24 code markings of the 25 trails.

Lush vegetation all around, Skiathos is rich in water.

Meet The Author
Hello, my name is Elisabeth Powers. As one of three happy owners, I welcome you to our Villa Maestrali, the family vacation home our parents built in the early 1970's on Skiathos island.  After working as an actor and a translator, and raising a family, my main focus is now managing this magical place, and helping our guests create wonderful memories. We have been listed on OwnersDirect, Flipkey etc. for 10 years, enjoying fully booked seasons until the industry changed. Our goal now, is to gain independency via our own website so as to recreate direct contact with our guests and spare them the extra booking fees now imposed by the big sites. We travel from Berlin, Germany to Skiathos several times a year for longer periods to look after our Villa Maestrali, keep it at its high standard and get ready to welcome guests to the new season.

While staying with us in Vintage Villa Magnolia, there's plenty to do in Pula and around it, such as visiting nearby islets, trailing dinosaurs at the very end of the peninsula or having a coffee with the author of Ulysses, Mr James Joyce.
