Pretty Cotswold Cottage. Charming village near Chipping Campden
Sansome House Cottage lies quietly in a hidden courtyard in the equally well hidden village of Ilmington just 7 miles from Stratford on Avon and 4 miles from Chipping Campden, thus straddling the tip of the North Cotswolds and Shakespeare Country/the Heart of England.
The Cottage is located opposite the main house across a wide courtyard but this is the only shared area (for off road parking). Otherwise the cottage is detached from and completely independent of the house. It is a typical stone Cotswold cottage although it does not have the very low ceilings of a lot of cottages from this period (early 1700's) as it used to be part of the farm buildings for Sansome House and the conversion to living quarters was probably made in the early part of the twentieth century.
It is ideally suited for those intrepid souls who want to explore different regions of England from this very comfortable base but of course equally suited for those who just want to have a quiet potter in our beautiful area. Explore picturesque villages all around (including spending some time in our own, strolling the footpaths which wind around the houses of Ilmington), drop into Stratford for some Shakespeare, visit a myriad of historic houses and gardens open to the public or browse the many unique shopping opportunities in villages and towns around.
There are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms. The principal bedroom has a king bed made up as 'Austrian Twins' with snuggly downy duvets and soft cotton linen and the second bedroom has twin beds.
A bathroom with bath lies between the bedrooms. Downstairs there is cloakroom with a good monsoon type shower.
Off the hall lies the sitting room which is furnished in small country house style (Persian rugs on a board floor) and houses a 40" TV on which you can beam your subscriptions for Netflix etc and a bluetooth audio player. Sit on the comfortable sofas in front of a log fire and you have over 100 books to choose from as well as DVDs of the favourites such as Downton Abbey and other British and American films. There is copious literature on the area, maps, guides, cycling and walking trails; files of places to visit and much more...
The country kitchen is large enough for a table for six people to dine on. Keen cooks should not find that they lack equipment with a generous supply of pots, pans and useful utensils and they can pick herbs in the garden in season. There is an oven, hob, microwave, food processor, smoothie maker, fridge with small freezer and five different methods of making coffee! There is also a dishwasher, a washing machine and a drier (the latter housed in the attached garage where a table tennis table is available also).
You will find garden chairs, parasol and a portable barbeque also in the garage. The small garden of the cottage is completely enclosed and private. There is an outdoor dining table just outside the kitchen on the patio area and a little lawn is fringed by perennial plants so there is usually something blooming to look at. It is particularly lovely in Spring.
Being a stone cottage, it is warm in winter (oil-fired central heating) and cool in summer. Note that I do not take pets and because the staircase is quite steep and there is an open fireplace, I do not accept children under five.
