Plan Now for Blues Week on Pensacola Beach: July 12th - 14th 2018
Blue Angels Beach Airshow - Locals and visitors from all over look forward to the annual Pensacola Beach Air Show held in the summer. The show highlights our hometown heroes — the Blue Angels — the U. S. Navy’s flight demonstration squadron stationed at Forrest Sherman Field aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola. The Blues hold several practice sessions along the beach in the days leading up to the big event on show day. This is a busy busy week on Pensacola Beach and you should make your lodging reservations well in advance. Try and find a place that will let you checkout on the Sunday after the air show to get the most fun from your vacation. The Blues fly over the beach on Wed morning and have practice shows on Thursday with a full dress rehearsal on Friday and regular show on Saturday. This is a good week to rent or bring your bicycles.
How to Enjoy the Blues Like a Local
There are four days that you can see the Blues fly over Pensacola Beach. On Wednesday they do a practice show in the morning. Locals snag a table at Casino Beach Bar and Grille where we have breakfast and enjoy the action. Getting a parking spot in the Casino lot shouldn't be a problem on Wednesday morning.
The Blues do their full show (minus the Civilian pre-show) on Thursday around 2:00pm. This is a good day to head down with the whole family to watch their show near the Pier. Lazy Days Beach Rentals has chairs and umbrellas for rent all weekend. You probably need a reservation on Friday or Saturday but Thursday you should be able to just walk up and find a spot. The Beach Trolley will be running all weekend and Thursday you can find a space to jump on. Or take your chances driving and looking for a place to park in the big Casino lot.
Friday and Saturday are the busier days with Saturday being very busy. The Civilian part of the airshow starts around 10:00am and the Blues fly at 2:00pm. You can reserve chairs in advance with Lazy Days, then drop off your coolers in the morning and come back by bike or trolley. Or just watch the show from the Gulf in front of your rental house.
Other places to watch the show in comfort at a table on the Gulfside are Crabs, Casino Beach Bar and Grill, Riptides, Hampton Inn, Hilton - call ahead to find out if you can reserve a table.
Another fun way to see the show is by boat from the Soundside. Rent (way in advance) a pontoon boat from Key Sailing or call Captain Jack with TidelineSports.com to charter a sailboat to watch the show from the Soundside.
After the Blues show is finished, head over to Paradise Beach Bar and Grill to hear what fabulous band they have playing.
