Property Description

And the mermaid dreamed that one day, she too could live in a little magical cottage on the harbor. If only for a little while. And then her dreams came true.

Welcome home to the FRISKY FISH COTTAGE!

The Frisky Fish is a small (TWO bedroom) waterfront cottage along with a SEASONAL boathouse/bunkhouse/artist studio/playhouse located in beautiful Bucks Harbor, Maine. It offers a unique vacation experience in the middle a working tidal fishing harbor, surrounded by fishing activity.

It IS the perfect place for those looking for an authentic down east Maine experience and adventure. The lobstering and fishing activity is a fascinating pastime - there is always something to watch right from the property.

++ When we added the bunkhouse last year, we envisioned it as a spot for the little-ones, but were (happily) surprised that, from the feedback we've received, that it is even more popular with 'sister-groups', 'cousin-trips' and even couples.++

***IMPORTANT INFO*** THE BUNKHOUSE IS THE 3RD BEDROOM AND IS ONLY AVAILABLE WARMER MONTHS (usually July and August only). It is a separate building without heat or bathroom. During July and August, the Frisky Fish and Boathouse sleeps FOUR total.

Watch the lobster boats come and go and unload their catch, directly from the front yard of our tiny cottage.

The Frisky Fish is a unique and whimsical, squeaky-clean, and very comfortable home.

** Great Room - soaring cathedral ceiling and windows on three sides for over-the-water ocean breezes.

** Full kitchen as part of the great room with full size appliances and plenty of cooking tools

** First floor bedroom - small bedroom with queen bed, dresser and closet.

** First floor bathroom - full bath with tub/shower combo and washer and dryer.

** Loft bedroom - king size bed with dresser and reading nook overlooking the cove.

** Small upstairs half-bath.

During warmer months (usually only July/Aug/Sept), the rental includes use of the boathouse should want to use it (however, our total property occupancy can never exceed FOUR due to town regulations). There are three twin beds, lots of board games, outdoor games, a television, mini-fridge, and it's just a darn cute place to spend some time. It's been used as a bunkhouse, a music recording retreat, an artist studio, a quilting area. (There is, however, NO plumbing so no bathroom and no heat in the bunkhouse).

The Frisky Fish is approximately 8 miles from the town of Machias with a grocery store, restaurants including the famous, Helens, known for their delicious blueberry pie , The French Cellar - a wine and cheese store, Whole Live Natural Foods & Cafe, etc. The nearest lobster pound is just around the corner and over the hill or visit "Mother Shuckers Lobsters" in Roque Bluffs on your way home from a day at the state park and sandy beach.

All of our property is smoke-free .

The Neighborhood

Bucks Harbor is the tidal working fishing/lobstering village in the town of Machiasport, Maine. You will hear the chug-chug-chug of the boats in the harbor and the caw of the gulls. Both across the water and sometimes, just across the street, you might hear the bahhh of sheep or the moo of a cow (or some fiddle music from across the water).

The Frisky Fish is also just under a mile to the world famous Jasper Beach with it's melodious and unique music from the waves hitting the rocks. A must not miss experience. For swimming, the best bet is Roque Bluffs State Park which is a short drive away and offers both a sandy ocean beach and also a fresh water lake.

Maria received degrees in both business and psychology and had worked as both a travel professional and a real estate agent when she realized that she could combine both of her passions — travel and residential real estate and design. Managing vacation rental properties since 2003, she has spent countless hours obsessively networking with other vacation rental professionals. Her love for residential architecture and beautiful landscapes has led Maria to collect houses around the globe, including one purchased sight unseen on the Bay of Fundy in Canada. She’s also been lucky to live in some really cool locales – an 18th century carriage house on Beacon Hill in Boston, a medieval castle in Europe, several resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, and a historic Spanish-eclectic Pacific view home in southern California. Maria currently divides her time between an artsy farmhouse in Machiasport, Maine, a quintessential cape house on Cape Cod and a beach cottage in tiny Phinney Cove, Nova Scotia. Oh, and her, oh-so-chaotic, home life consists of a musician hubby, two teenagers, four cats, two dogs and a diaper-wearing house-chicken.
