Villa Michaela is one of the pre-eminent 5-bedroom, luxury pool-villas on Koh Samui. And the short 10 minute drive from the international airport barely prepares you for the unrivaled elegance and splendor that awaits. From the tree lined approach to the huge, ornate wooden doors open in welcome, exploring Villa Michaela will delight and surprise you at every turn.
The villa opens into a shaded, private courtyard with ponds on either side, verdant flora and ten fascinating sculptures lining the walls. These feminine figures have been represented in art-form from the Paleolithic to ancient Greece to 20th century abstract expressionists with parallels to the celebrated work of Feminist Art sculptresses such as Louise Bourgeois. And throughout Villa Michaela you will find beautiful prints adorning the walls, classical Buddhist statues and an impressive attention to detail in the décor and furnishings.
As you walk through the courtyard you will begin to see the ocean through the 12-foot high glass doors that lead into the main open-plan living and dining area. This extensive indoor space is air-conditioned and even on the hottest days it remains very cool. It’s also an exceptionally comfortable place to relax and still enjoy the fabulous views through the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors. There are four distinct areas: a fully-fitted, modern guest kitchen which has two ovens, a cooking hob, a fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee machine and all the utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware you could ever need; a dining table for ten guests with ocean views; a separate living space with three large sofas; and up a short flight of stairs there is a small media room with a large TV, daybed and scatter cushions to relax upon. Opposite the kitchen there is also a separate shower room and toilet.
Directly outside you’ll see an enormous decking area and infinity pool with some of the very best views on the island. Coconut groves stretch out below and from the villa’s elevated position you can see the neighbouring island of Koh Pha Ngan in the distance. Much nearer though are the two small islands of Koh Som - the larger island on the right - and Koh Lum Mu Noi to the left. Often the pair are collectively referred to as ‘Koh Som’ as Koh Lum Mu Noi is mostly rocks and craggy cliffs while Koh Som has everything you’d want in a small tropical island with sandy shores and coconut trees in the shallows. Longboat rides can be arranged from the nearby Plai Laem pier to make a visit to the island and private sunset cruises often circle around it. And your villa manager can also arrange everything from car hire, to taxis, excursions and restaurant bookings.
On the deck there is a modern barbecue with a sink, preparation space, multiple plug sockets, a bar with bar-stools and an outdoor dining table for ten. There are also plenty of sun-loungers, bean bags, umbrellas for shade and wide, cushioned chairs. And the sound system operates equally as well outdoors as it does indoors. The 18-metre infinity pool is bathed in sunshine all day as the sun makes its way from east (to the right facing the ocean) to west with the sun setting behind the hills beyond. In addition, the infinity pool has two platforms at either end and either one makes the perfect setting for a late afternoon wedding ceremony. With such an expansive decking area, there’s plenty of space to host a wedding reception and party for your family and friends.
Villa Michaela has a total of five double en-suite bedrooms and four of these are on the same level as the pool and indoor living area. Bedrooms 1 and 4 are ocean facing at either end of the pool deck and bedrooms 2 and 3 are behind them and they have ocean and garden views. All have king-sized beds, plenty of storage space, a work station, a wine chiller, safe deposit box, a large TV and sound system, floor-to-ceiling windows and a private outdoor terrace with comfortable chairs. All the en-suites are large with double sinks, powerful rain showers and a sunken Terrazzo bathtub. And each bathroom is tastefully decorated with Thai ornaments and antiques. A black and white theme to the wall colouring and décor continues throughout the bedrooms and the main living space.
At each end of the infinity pool there are steps leading down to the landscaped garden and also to the Spa Room which has two massage beds, a steam room and shower room. And we can easily arrange for spa therapists to come to the villa whenever you wish for traditional massages, aromatherapy and hair and beauty treatments.
Below the pool there is another building which houses a separate Thai kitchen and the cinema room which has 12 over-sized home theatre loungers and a massive screen with a modern AV system. And next to the cinema is bedroom 5 which has both ocean and garden views. It has a four-poster bed plus a Terrazzo bathtub, shower and toilet and again lots of space for clothes and a work station.
Villa Michaela offers the very highest standards in luxury pool-villa living, has incredible views of the surrounding hills, bays and islands and is truly unique in its architecture, design and quality of furnishings. It’s ideal for families and groups of friends and provides a stunning venue for those very special times in your life.
