Private Hide Away in St Omer Bay, Kenepuru Sound, Marlborough New Zealand
Our little home is tucked away in the hills overlooking St Omer Bay in New Zealand’s Marlborough. Great views of the bay and Kenepuru Sound and just 3 hours by car from Nelson, 2 hours by car from Havelock or a 25-minute boat ride from Havelock. St Omer Hideout can also be reached by road from Picton if you take the ferry over from Wellington.
Blue skies and sunshine, friendly people, amazing wine. No gridlock, smog, fake news or noise.
Our slice of paradise lets you fly to an airstrip 1 km away, stay in a secluded private home, play 9 holes of golf and dine at a 4-star restaurant in season. We don’t believe you can do this anywhere else in the Marlborough Sounds. Or if flying is not your thing, you can drive or take a water taxi. You have choices. Excellent choices!
The Marlborough Sounds has 1500 km of coastline lined with native bush trails and topped with amazing views. You won’t regret it!
St Omer Hideout is located on a flat area on the side of a hill overlooking St Omer Bay. This means you have outstanding views of Kenepuru Sound, including beautiful sunrises and sunsets. You have these views from the living room, deck, and two of the bedrooms. You also have a great deal of privacy, with no nearby neighbors within view, or hearing. The quiet and seclusion is one of the reasons people come here, however sound can travel, so if you would like to play loud music and party, we request that you reserve another home.
The home was designed for open-air living, with a large retractable patio door that opens onto the wrap-around deck. The plexiglass deck wall grants unobstructed views of the native bush surrounding the home. Awning windows allow consistent airflow throughout the home, while keeping rain out. (The house does not have any type of cooling system, other than the windows. Heating is via the wood stove in the living room if you are here during the cooler time of year.)
We presently have a queen bed, a set of bunk beds and one single bed, spread among three bedrooms. The water closet and shower/vanity are in separate rooms, New-Zealand-style! Floors are rustic with a few carpets.
The modern kitchen is furnished with pots and pans, plates/bowls, flatware, drinking glasses, knives and other cooking utensils, plus cutting boards, French Press, Moka pot, electric tea kettle, microwave, electric oven, gas stove, tea towels, washing materials for cleaning dishes. (The house is only 5 years old.)
The house will have some dry goods including paper towels and toilet tissue, but you may wish to bring some with you, just in case. As we state later on, there are no shops in our area. So if you don’t bring it here, you may not find it here.
Hot water is available if you run the generator.
Sightseeing by water taxi, mussel farm tours, exploratory trips on the Mailboat, sailing charters, kayaking, fishing, biking, hiking the Queen Charlotte Track, golf at Nopera, scenic flights via Pelorus Air
4 km to Raetihi Lodge for lunch, dinner, coffee or a cocktail!
