Kauai Farmers Market On The North Shore - Hawaii
Whether you live on Kauai, or are visiting the garden island, do not miss a Kauai farmers market held at two venues on the north shore every Saturday morning. At each one you will find the freshest produce and quality products brought to you by the local farmers and merchants of the island. The best, and least abundant items go fast. So, if you are particular, get there when they open for first choice.
Kauai Farmers Market at Hanalei
Opening at 9:30, and running until noon, this Saturday event draws hundreds of people. It is held in an open area just past the town of Hanalei. Parking is along the side of the highway or next to the historic green church (Wai'oli). There are usually parking attendants directing the traffic. Once parked, follow the crowd.
There will be plenty of farmers selling their tropical fruits, vegetables and flowers.
There will also be plenty of residents offering up their locally made products. Diane creates these canvas hats that my husband, Tom, swears by. He just received his third one for his birthday. They are perfect for keeping the sun and rain off his head while he works.
One of my favorite jewelers is also at the Hanalei Farmers Market. Her name is Toni and she creates creative pieces out of silver, gold and pearls. I splurged this year and bought this beauty for myself.
There are vendors selling ready-made food and fresh pastries. Most weeks live music will accompany your walk around the market.
Kauai Farmers Market at Anaina Hou
Your second choice for gathering local items on Saturday morning is at Anaina Hou. This Kauai farmers market is next to the mini golf on the highway in Kilauea. There is plenty of parking and people wait for the market to open at 9:00. Vendors stay until 1:00.
Midnight Bear Breads is so popular a line forms on the side of the tent waiting for 9:00 to arrive.
And, if you bring your keiki (children) with you, they can spend their time at this fabulous playground, built by volunteers. It sits just on the other side of the driveway from the market.
It is hard to choose which of these two Kauai farmers markets is better. They are just 10 to 15 minutes apart so you could hit them both. Or, with any luck, you will be on island for two weeks and can peruse one each Saturday while you are on island.
