Earthworks pottery

Published on November 8, 2018 by NeilAndOlivia

You won't get very far on the island before you see the brightly coloured plates, bowls and mugs that greet you in cafes and bars, or on the shelves in gift shops.

They are all made on the island, at Earthworks, a family own pottery that sits up on the hill in St Thomas.   What started as a "one man band" making one off designs in 1983, is now a business employing 24 people who make a range of ceramic products.  Everything from square or round plates and platters to vases, bowls and lamp stands in over thirty different patterns.  It is hard to know what to choose when you look at what is on offer!

We always suggest our guests go and visit so they pick up a souvenir or two, and then nip next door to the art gallery to find another huge range of art works and gifts.   You can even have lunch there too in the cafe surrounded by trees (on a good day you can see out to the coast, but if you happen to go on a cloudy day you will be lucky to see the car park!).

If you have a specific design in mind (maybe a wedding or personalised birthday gift) then Earthworks will be happy to discuss designing this for you.   It takes about 8 weeks to then be made and shipped but will arrive carefully wrapped in layer upon layer of newspaper, nestled in a cardboard box.   Often when you have forgotten you ordered it so it is a lovely surprise and reminder of your stay on the island.

Why not pick up a couple of mugs so you can be reminded every morning when you have your first cuppa?

Open Monday to Friday from 9 - 5, Saturdays 9 - 1 and they are closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

PS Don't forget your passports so you can buy at duty free prices too.

Meet The Author
Welcome to our home away from home! We are Neil and Olivia and we bought this property after retiring from running a vineyard for 10 years. We have spent the last few years travelling the world (often in a classic car) and fell in love with Barbados the first time we visited. As much as we love to travel, we also like to spend time relaxing with a good bottle of wine and great company. We have furnished Fairways very much with that vibe in mind: somewhere for you to unwind and enjoy your well deserved holiday, but close enough to plenty of restaurants, beaches and "must do's" so you never hear the dreaded "I'm bored". We also know that it is the little touches that really make a holiday, so we are more than happy to help with special requests beyond "can you organise a cot". Getting married and need transport? Have a special dinner to book? Want to have dinner served at home but don't want to cook it? We would love to help with any of those. Please do get in touch
