Dog Friendly Pubs in Oban

Published on July 30, 2019 by houseparties
Scotland is a wonderful place to take your pet, and Oban even more so. Known as the drinking capital of west Scotland, there are plenty of places for you to sample the local tipples, particularly the whisky Oban is so famous for, even if you’re travelling with your beloved dog. Here’s a guide to the four best dog-friendly pubs in Oban.

The Lorne
A traditional Scottish pub located in the heart of Oban, The Lorne has a fantastic selection of ales and lagers to choose from as well as a great choice of whiskies. Their menu features all the pub classics and also serve some great seafood. They even do a ‘feast for a fiver’ lunch deal, where you can get some of their most popular dishes for around £5 between 12pm and 5pm daily. The Lorne is also Oban’s premier late night venue, with DJs and live bands playing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Best of all, all dogs are welcome, with the pub even having a special doggy menu so your pet can enjoy a meal when you do.

Aulay’s Bar
A central bar with a rich history (the pub occupies the former site of the town’s oldest droving inn) which attracts both locals and tourists, Aulay’s bar offers a great pub experience, from its amazing selection of local beers and Scottish malt to its screening of popular sporting events. You can even play some typical pub games, including darts and dominoes. Food is served at lunchtimes between 12pm and 2:30pm, and there will also be a bowl of water and biscuits awaiting your dog.

The Barn Bar
Located less than three miles outside the centre of Oban, this delightful bar is housed in a converted cattle byre and has bags of character. A CAMRA listed pub, you will have your pick of the best local whisky and real ale, as well as a great menu with ingredients sourced from the local area. As well as being a winner of the Best Scottish Pub two years in a row, The Barn Bar have also been nominated for the Best Pet-Friendly Pub in Scotland, meaning this pub is a great place to bring your dog.

Markie Dans
A fantastic pub for all the family – including your dog – Markie Dans biggest draw is its huge beer garden with the best view in the town, overlooking Oban Bay. Inside you’ll find one of the largest selections of single malts in Argyll, some great local beers, lots of drinks promotions, and a pool table. They also hold regular events, such as live music and screenings of sports events. The pub even host a music festival the first week of June.
Oban has some fantastic pubs where you can enjoy the local food and drink. And at these particular Oban pubs, your dog can enjoy them too.
