A sweet tooth

Published on February 13, 2016 by alan egan

Bornholm is pure heaven if you have a sweet tooth!
Bornholm’s sweet delicacies
Bornholm is the perfect size for awakening the senses – including your palate. Bornholm produces a wide range of delicacies, and there is something for everyone with a sweet tooth. Simplicity, craftsmanship and quality are the key words for Bornholmian produce.

Gudhjem and Svaneke are home to Bornholm's delicious, soft toffees. In the working toffee-making houses and shops you can experience traditional craftsmanship and follow the toffee closely through its production process.

Ice cream
A sumptuous ice cream is a must when you visit Bornholm. In Svaneke you can buy delicious Bornholmian ice cream with berries, fruit and other sweet things added – a pure product without any additives, and in Snogebæk you can enjoy freshly made organic ice cream produced used Italian machines.

Wine gum
In Svaneke you will also find a small wine gum factory with good handmade wine gum produced by seaweed. The wine gum is made from the best ingredients with respect for good craftsmanship. You can of course buy the wine gum in many different flavors.

Try the handmade filled chocolates and chocolate covered marshmallows in Svaneke, Snogebæk, Gudhjem and Rønne – once eaten never forgotten. Simplicity craftsmanship and quality are the key words here. In most places you can see how the chocolate is made in the open production room attached to the shop.

Boiled sweets
In Svaneke you can also try some of Bornholm’s delicious boiled sweets in the over 200 year old grocer’s in the market square. Watch the many varieties of sweets being made, a process which uses traditional methods and prioritises high quality when it comes to taste appearance.

When you visit Bornholm you should also try the island’s delicious liquorice, which is handmade of the finest raw materials, with no additives of course.

Bornholm’s own pantry
You can also go hunting in Bornholm’s very own pantry and try wild blackberries or buy delicious strawberries, figs, blueberries or mulberries from a street stand or one of Bornholm's lovely markets.
