GingerMan Raceway in South Haven
Not every vacation destination has a raceway nearby where you can learn to drive in car races, participate in novice car race events, or visit as a spectator. But in South Haven, Michigan, the GingerMan Raceway, located six miles east of downtown, is an unusual addition to most vacation itineraries.
The GingerMan Raceway opened for motorcycle and sports car racing in 1996. Considered one of the safest tracks in the country, the 2.21-mile course was designed with clear runoffs and wide, smooth paving with driver safety in mind. This dedication to safety draws amateur and experienced drivers and motorsports enthusiasts from around the country.
Is racing a car on your bucket list? Sign up for a driver’s education course and/or a CGI Track Event at GingerMan. The CGI-sponsored events are a good start for novice drivers. Bring your own vehicle or rent one! Or, for the ultimate South Haven souvenir, purchase a Porsche or Corvette from among the race cars for sale at the GingerMan Raceway.
Don’t want to race a car but love to watch? There is plenty of variety at the track throughout the season from bike racing, training trials, vintage sports cars, meets for specific makes such as Porches or Hondas, and even Duesenbergs. On the lighter side, there is endurance road racing for $500 cars called “24 hours of Lemons.”
The track is situated on 300 acres of land that includes wooded areas, a stocked pond, and camping facilities. Located at 61414 Phoenix Road, South Haven, Michigan 49090. Telephone 269-253-4445.
Spectators admitted for $10 for most events; children 12 and under are free. Complete information at the website:
